are there any restrictions, appearance-wise?

The Mikado clan is a clan of gypsies; they met a lot of various people during their travels and some of them joined the clan, marrying the members, later on having children etc. That's why there aren't any physical features that could be treated as a trademark of the clan 
They have various hair colours, eyes etc. The only thing I could ask for is to make sure your OC will have clothes at least a little resembling a ninja outfit
